Acupuncture Effective for Body Pain
Americans invest significant amounts of cash dealing with body pain. It has been projected that over $37 billion is expended yearly for the treatment of body pain together with an additional $19.8 billion incurred from deficits in production and work hours.
A recent study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine (May, 2009) viewed the role of acupuncture in treating body pain. Over an 8 week time period, there are 638 body pain patients split into four treatment groups by Daniel C. Cherkin and his co-workers. The individualized acupuncture group got traditional acupuncture therapy. A fixed set of acupuncture treatments are also given to the standardized acupuncture group. A simulated acupuncture group gotten stimulation at the acupuncture points using a toothpick in the guide tube; points were stimulated at 10' and 20' using the toothpicks. And the kind of treatment a person decides on like medications and physical therapy is provided to the usual care group.
For individuals getting the usual care, only has 39% of them experienced significant improvement while individuals getting all forms of acupuncture, 60% of them experienced this improvement following an eighth week follow up. 52 weeks later, until the end of the research, the acupuncture group has carried on increased improvement. The research workers come to the conclusion that different strategies of acupuncture point stimulation may actually bring about good responses to body pain. They proposed that more investigation is required to clarify the mechanisms of action evoking these reactions.
